How to Remove Adhesive Vinyl Decals

Vinyl removal from a surface can depend on many factors including the type/condition of the surface and the length of time the sticker has been applied to the surface.

Apply heat gun or hair dryer on a warm setting to the vinyl, slowly heating the corner and start peeling with your fingertips or tweezers. Keep applying heat to the area you are peeling off until the whole sticker is removed. If there is any adhesive residue left, wipe off with wash cloth dipped in soapy water. If there’s any more residue left, then move to adhesive remover such as Goo Gone, WD-40, rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover as necessary. You can also use a plastic scraper to make removal easier. Always test these products on a small area first and use sparingly.

How to Remove Wall Vinyl

To successfully remove a wall decal, you need to be careful and patient to keep the paint underneath intact. Pulling too quickly will rip the vinyl, making it more difficult to remove and it and it may also take some paint with it.
Use to following steps to remove a wall vinyl without damaging the surface:

Step 1: Test the wall decal by slowly pulling at a corner to see how stuck it is. In some cases, vinyl will remove quite easily without leaving any damage to the paint underneath.

Step 2: If the sticker is firmly stuck to the wall, use a heat gun or hairdryer on a warm setting to slowly heat a corner and start peeling. Once that corner starts getting easier to peel, apply heat to the next area as you slowly remove the decal patiently.

Step 3: If there is any adhesive residue left on the wall, try removing it by rubbing in a circular motion with a clean dry towel and if necessary, use soapy water. If that doesn’t work, try an adhesive remover, WD-40 or nail polish remover sparingly.
You must always test a small area first to be sure it doesn't remove color or paint from the wall.
